Wondering Whether You Should Get Mobilestudio Pro 13 Or 16? Here A Little Comparison I Made For Them
A while ago, Wacom released the smaller size for its MobileStudio Pro line, one that features a 13-inches display. If you plan on getting a Modilestudio Pro, you may be wondering which one of the two sizes to get, and whether there are difference or feature that exists in the 16-inches model, but not in the 13-inches one. That’s the issue we will tackle in this comparison.
Like with my other comparisons, this one will focus on the differences between the two devices. With a section at the end that showcases the aspects where the two models are the same. I won’t try to pass judgement on which one is better, as that totally depend on your needs, but I hope my tips will make the selection process much easier.

The Screen
Besides the obvious difference between the screen sizes (13.3 Inch VS 15.6 Inche). There are some other differences between the resolution of the two devices. For one, the resolution are different. MobildeStuio Pro 13 screen resolution is 2560 x 1440 (or WQHD), while the 16 model supports 4K resolution, or 3840 x 2160. There’s also a slight difference in the color gamus. The MobileStudio Pro 16 supports a wider color range at 85% Adobe RGB, as opposed to 82% Adobe RGB of the 13 mobel.
How Does The Screen Size Matters?
If you wonder whether you should get the 13-inches or 16-inches model, or whether the 13-inch is too small to draw comfortably. The truth is, there’s no easy answer for everyone, just useful guidelines. If you plan on moving around often, then the 13-inches is the way to go, it’s large enough to draw on. It’s also much easier to carry & fit into many bags or backpacks.
Other than that, the 16-inch is your safe bet, it’s the best when it comes to the features. It’s also the way to go if you plan to place it on a desk and draw for hours. You will appreciate the additional screen space in that case. Its main issues are the price & the less mobility.

The Graphics Card
While the MobileStudio Pro 16 comes equiped with a NVIDIA Quadro P1000 graphics card. The smaller 13 model only comes with integrated graphics card:- intel® Iris Plus Graphics 655.
For general sketching & painting. The graphics card may not matter much for most artists, but for 3D applications, and possibly running games (if you plan to use your device as a laptop replacement). It generally depends on the applications you want to run.
Express Keys
Because MobileStudio Pro are devices you tend to carry around, as that’s their main purpose. Having more expresskeys can make a difference here. That’s particularly the case if you plan on working on places where using a keyboard is not an easy option, like a garden bench. It’s something I kinda miss while drawing on the iPad Pro.
Just like the fact with the original MobileStudio Pro models, the number of express keys is different. The 13-inch model has 6, while the 16-inch has 8. I don’t understand the reason why the smaller model should have less buttons, but c’est la vie.
No Memory Upgrade
Out of the box, both the MobileStudio Pro 13 & 16 come with 16 GB of ram. Which is good for running most graphical needs. If you read my Mobile Studio Pro 16 review, you would know that the 16-inch model comes with a vacant ram slot, where you could add an additional 16GB stick. Which adds up to 32GB of ram. The 13-inch model doesn’t have that, so you’re stuck with the 16 GB you get from the beginning.
That leaves people who want to do memory intensive artworks on the go out of the equation. Unless they don’t have issue carrying the larger MobileStuio Pro with them.

Other Diffirences
One last difference between the two models is the response time, which is 30 ms in the 13 model, and 25 ms in the 16 model. This is not something you would easily notice, but it was worth pointing out.
Dimentions & Weight Comparison
You can check out the approximate dimensions & weight for both models in the following table:-
Dimensions | Weight | |
MobileStudio Pro 13 | 229 x 367 x 17 mm / 14.4 x 9 x 0.7 in | 1.44 kg / 3.2 lbs |
MobileStudio Pro 16 | 262 x 418 x 21 mm / 10.2 x 16.5 x 0.8 in | 2.10 kg / 4.7 lbs |
Both devices are light enough for carrying around, with the 13-inch model being the easiest to carry.

What Are The Features The Two Models Share?
Now we looked at the differences between the MobileStudio Pro 13 & 16 models. It’s time to see where the two devices are the same. In essense, both devices have the same following features:-
- Intel CoreTM i7-8559U CPU
- 512 GB SSD storage
- Windows 10 – Stand-alone
- Requires USB-C with alternate mode for connecting to PC, HDMI or mini-Display port (more ports are supported if you plan on using adapters).
- Both models support touch.
- Battery-free pen, like any other Wacom product.
- Can be used as a regular Cintiq with both Windows & Mac computers
- 8192 level of pressure sensitivity (on both the pen tip & eraser).
- 60 degrees of pen tilt support.
- Wacom Pro Pen 2 with two switches on the side.
- Same ports:- USB-C, Middle port is USB-C (USB3.1 Gen2), 2 Thunderbolt3, 1 Audio-combo (Headset), 1 Standard SD card reader.
And Finally
The two MobileStudio Pro models may look similar at first look, but they are quite different when it comes to some of the specifications. In general, MobileStudio Pro 13 is good for general drawing & sketching, and can be used for more intense work if neededm while being, more portable & affordable. While the MobileStudio Pro 16 offers the best of everything, but with less mobility & a higher price.
I sincrely wish for Waocm to release a more afforable portable Cintiq in the future, as I find both models to be a bit on the expensive side.
