An Overview About Photoshop Elements 14
For those who don’t know about Photoshop Elements, and are curious whether they should get it or not. Elements is a simpler version of the of Photoshop. But unlike Photoshop, which is made with professionals in mind, Photoshop Elements 14 is made mainly for consumers, as it contains many features that makes certain tasks like adjusting photos tasks easier. Many of these features don’t require an experience in Photo-editing, though having that experience can give you a huge boost, even if you have Photoshop Elements.
Photoshop Elements 14 has two parts, an organizer & editor. As its name implies, the organizer aims at making it easier to organize your photos, even if they were too many, it allows you to view your photos, label them or find any picture you have very quickly. While the editor is the photo-editing part of the software, where you can make a numerous amount of adjustments to your picture, similar to what you can do with Photoshop, or any other photo-editing software.
While you browse your photos in the organizer, you can do some adjustment from within the organizer if you want, or you can open it in the editor to make extensive editing on it.

New Features In Photoshop Elements 14
For those who has a previous version of Photoshop Elements, and wonder what is new in this version, here are a list of the new features in Photoshop Elements 14, the ones that were not there in Photoshop Elements 13:-
- Removing Camera Shake:- Have you ever took a photo using your phone camera, or even your digital camera, and ended up with a shaky picture? That’s no more, as you can pretty easily get rid of the shakiness with the new Bye-bye Camera Shaking.
- Haze background:- This is another feature aimed at those who take pictures on the go. If you take pictures of sceneries or landscapes often, you will sometimes find it hard to take a picture when there are fog or haze that obstructs your view. And that’s where the new Haze Removal tool comes in, as it allows you to remove the haze from your pictures.
- Auto Smart Look:- This features makes Photoshop Elements do image adjustment for you, it do that by auto-generating 5 different adjustments to your photo, and let you select one of them to apply on your photo.
- Revamped organizer:- With a better ability to recognize people. Enhanced Places feature. It is also more flexible to tag events on your photos, and import images in bulk.
- Make fine selections more easily:- If you have some experience in Photo-editing, there must have been times where you tried to select your cat’s fur and ended up with a complete mess? That’s what the Refine selection brush is trying to help you avoid, as you only need to paint over the edges you want to select, and it will create the selection for you.
- Straighten Tool:- If you accidently snapped a picture that turned out to be slanted, the Straighten tool can help you fix your picture quite easily, all you need to do is to draw a straight line over the one that should be vertical, like the line of the wall, and the tool will do the work for you.
- Guided-Edit:- In the guided-edit mode, there are many tabs for each type of adjustment you want to make, each option in each category has an example that shows you what kind of end result you will get. The following tabs are available in Photoshop Elements 14:-.

- The ability to create a panoramic picture by aligning a few pictures together:- Creating Panoramic pictures is always possible to do without any specific feature, but if you always tend to create panoramic pictures, you can save some good time by doing this automatically.
- Photoshop Elements 14 shows you different options on what to do with your picture after you are done with the quick edit mode:- you can either continue to edit the photo in expert or quick mode, save it, or share it over some of the most popular social media networks, like Facebook or Twitter.
What Are Some Of The Differences Between Photoshop Elements 14 & The Regular Photoshop CC?
Seeing how there is a huge price difference in the price gap between Photoshop & Photoshop elements, you may be wondering what are the differences between the two versions, so I outlined the differences here.
I took the differences from adobe website, then to made them easier to understand, I added my explanation, which I hope is going to make things much clearer for you. I also hope these makes it easier to determine which version of Photoshop is better for you:-
- Photoshop elements can’t convert photos from RGB color mode to CMWK. This can be crucial if you plan to do some professional printing.
- Most plug-ins for Photoshop CC will work with Photoshop Elements.
- Photoshop Elements 14 comes with Organizer, Photoshop comes with Adobe Bridge. Each is intended to serve a different purpose.
- Photoshop Elements doesn’t have much support for 16 bits, but it allows you to open them. 16-bits images allows you to edit your Photos & make them endure heavier editing without losing the quality, as there are more depth information about the image compared to 8-bits images.
- Elements doesn’t support Duotone, CMWK, LAB or Multichannel. These modes are crucial in many professional environment, for one, CMWK is used a lot in professional printing. And LAB color mode encompasses more color range (or gamut) than the other color modes, making it ideal for many images adjusting tools.
- There is no full support for smart objects in Photoshop Elements 14. A features that allows you to edit an image without destroying the one in the original file, you can always edit the original image at any time and the smart object gets updated as well. Photoshop Elements 14 allows you to open smart objects, but not create them.
- Photoshop Elements 14 has no support for channels in Photoshop Elements 14, and it doesn’t have the channel mixer. Channels are used in various things like adjusting the colors.
- Photoshop Elements 14 doesn’t support merging multiple photos taken one after another to create a dynamic picture. A process known as HDR merge, but it contains a Photomerge exposure instead.
- Some content-aware options in Photoshop are not available in Photoshop Elements 14. Content-aware is a way to get rid of a certain object in your picture, or to fill a missing area in it, this is usually done automatically for you, and you only need to select the area you want to fill, or where the object you want to get rid of resides.
- Photoshop Elements 14 doesn’t have the pen tool family, which is a super useful tool that can be used for creating selections, filling areas, or drawing. It is an amazing tool once you get used to it.
- You can’t edit the vector points of shapes in Photoshop Elements 14.
- Photoshop Elements 14 doesn’t have the Subtract or Divide blending modes. Blending modes is a way to manipulate the way colors on top of each other blend either by painting using a brush using a certain mode. Or by placing layers on top of each others and then changing their blending modes.
- There are many panels in Photoshop that doesn’t exist in Photoshop Elements 14, like the Clone Source & the 3D panels.
- Photoshop Elements 14 doesn’t support extensions like Mini-Bridge.
- Adobe Camera Raw differences:- Adobe Camera Raw is a plug-in that allows you to edits Photos from your digital camera before you import them to Photoshop, Camera Raw can also be used to edit other kinds of photos as well. While both Photoshop CC & Photoshop Elements 14 has the Camera RAW plug-in, there are any differences in that features between the two versions, and this is what we will look at next.
What Are The Camera Raw Differences Between Photoshop Elements 14 & Photoshop CC?
As I previously said, Camera RAW is a plug in of Photoshop that allows you to edit the RAW files that are produced by digital cameras nowadays. Camera RAW can also be used to edit other type of files too. But compared to those type of files, RAW files have a wider range of colors, which mean you can edit them more effectively without destroying the image itself.
Both Photoshop Elements 14 and Photoshop CC has the Camera Raw Plug-in, but there are differences between the two. For one, Photoshop CC contains more tools than Photoshop Elements 14. The tools it has but Photoshop Elements 14 doesn’t are:-
- Color Sampler Tool:- A tool that allows you to show color information of a specific color you click on. You can sample up to 9 colors using this tool.
- Targeted Adjustment Tool:- A tool that allows you to adjust the highlights, light, darks, shadow. based on where you click.
- Spot Removal:- Repair an area with a sample from another. Similar to how the Clone Stamp tool works.
- Adjustment Brush:- This tool is used to adjust a certain area of a picture. Apply and adjust exposure, brightness, clarity by painting like any other brush.
- Graduated Filter:- This tool is used to apply and adjusts exposure, brightness, clarity using a gradient instead of a brush stroke, which creates a gradual effect on the picture.
- Tone Curve:- Adjusts the image tune using a curve.
- HSL / Grayscale:- Adjust certain values in your picture, using Hue, Saturation & Luminance.
- Split Toning:- Can be used to color grayscale images, .
- Lens Corrections:- each camera lens has its own len that works in a certain way, which tends to create some distortion on certain types of pictures. And this is where Lens Correction comes in, it allows you to easily fix these distortion, either by yourself of by selecting the camera type you have.
- Presets:- Saved adjustment settings to apply on other images.
- Snapshots:- Snapshot is a saved state of an image, something that’s very useful in case you want to try making some changes on your picture, but are not sure about it, in that case, snapshots are a good way to save the image state so you could get back to the image state at a later time.
Can You Use Photoshop Elements 14 For Painting & Creating Artworks
The short answer for this question is yes, you can. But generally speaking, if you plan on using Photoshop Elements 14 for painting only, then I suggest you get a dedicated art program, which tends to be cheaper than Photoshop Elements 14. But if you plan to use Photoshop Elements 14 for both image-editing & painting, then it can be a very good deal for you.
Installation & License?
Photoshop Elements 14 installation is valid to be installed on two systems, so you can install Photoshop Elements 14 on your desktop & laptop at the same time, or install one for yourself & one for your friend. Bear in mind that to activate Photoshop Elements 14 on a 3rd computer, you have to deactivate it on one of the two computers first before you can do that.
And Finally
Photoshop Elements 14 has always proven to be an excellent & robust tool to create & edit images. It is a great tools for anyone who doesn’t need all the features in the full Photoshop CC, or for those who wants a relatively easy way to edit & organize their images.
I hope you liked my Photoshop Elements 14 review, and see you again in another review. ^^

- The differences between Photoshop Elements 14 & Photoshop CC were taken from Adobe’s website.
You must have been paid by Adobe to say this is the best they’ve release. It’s a charlatan program that is not even SEMI-professional. Some of the key AND MOST BASIC things that used to separate Photoshop from the rest of the fray were lighting flares and a BEZIER PEN TOOL. They are NOT part of Elements and from the number of furious consumers writing about this CHEAP CHEAT by Adobe -it is a tool used by both professionals and consumers. This is a dumbed down app made for simpletons to organise their photos. My friends as well as myself, all of whom work professionally with photos & graphics do not want to be forced to buying apps by subscription. Adobe appears to be doing it’s best to alienate a large section of it’s client base while Apple is doing much more for it’s professional sector. Cheers …please correct me if I have overlooked the missing tools I have mentioned.
Sincerely.
Walter Kemble. xoxo :(
Hi Walter,
Apparently, you didn’t read my review well. I said this is the best version oh Photoshop Elements, not their best program ever. I also never claimed that the program meant for professionals at all, I clearly stated that it’s good As long you don’t need the missing features that are meant for professionals. Read my review well the next time.
By the way, even previous versions of Photoshop Elements didn’t have the pen tool as far as I know.
I agree with you that Adobe is being greedy with their business model though.
In all honestly, to say I must have been paid by Adobe for this review just because you don’t like it is absurd. I have the right to write my opinion on the program. You are welcome to point out anything you think is wrong in it & I will be more than happy to fix it whenever applicable.
I hope that helped~
