CHUWI Hi8 provides really good value for the money, as long your performance expectations are not high, you will be able to do tons of simple things with it. Like running little productivity machine that doesn’t needs power. This table is an example of companies taking advantage of Microsoft making Windows free for all the tablets below 9-inchs, or we would never have seen tablets with this price.
As long you don’t mind the battery life of this device (about 4 hours), the low specification, the relatively old version of Android, and as long as you also don’t mind the device getting a bit hot at times. I totally recommend it to you.

Following Microsoft decision to make Windows free for tablets below 9-inches screens last year, it was a matter of time before we get to see companies take advantage of that move. This move is the reason why we started to see tablets that runs a full-fledged Windows at very low price like CHUWI Hi8.
Hi8 is made by CHUWI, a Chinese company. It contains two operating systems, Windows 10 & Android Kitkat, you can reboot your computer to any of the systems at any time you want.
CHUWI Hi8 features an Intel Quad Core processor, with speed up to 2.16GHZ, and 2GB of ram. Granted, the specifications are not high, but this computer can be made to a lot of useful things, which can be tons of value for the money, giving how it has the good of both Windows & Android worlds, it is always going to run at least one application that is useful for you
There is a good chance you will buy this tablet mainly because you want only one of these two systems, in case you only want Windows, you can remove Android using petitioner program, but as far as I know, you are forced to keep Windows on your tablet.
Bear in mind that the version of Windows 10 CHUWI Hi8 runs is the 32-bit of Windows, which can’t run 64-bit applications. Fortunately, by the time of writing this article, there are many applications that are 32-bit, and many of the common applications has both 32-bit & 64-bit versions, like Adobe Photoshop.
When it comes to the screen, CHUWI Hi8 has a full HD 1920 X 1200 8-inches IPS Screen, which is very nice for such a small tablet, it makes for watching some good videos, though having that screen has its own disadvantage, as we will see shortly.
The version of Android it runs is 4.4 KitKat, which is a good version, though as far as I know, there is no way to upgrade to a higher version if the need raised later. If you plan to use the Android side of CHUWI Hi8 for a long time, then you may end up stuck with an old version that don’t run some of the newer apps.
Switching between Windows & Androids works fine too, but out of the box, you may find there is a few hours difference in the clock between the two system. Something you can fix with the help of CHUWI’s support.
When it comes to storage, CHUWI Hi8 has 32 GB of ram, which is good for a tablet, but bear in mind that a lot of that space is taken by the two operating systems installed in it, so there are not much storage left for you out of the box. The good thing is, you can add a SD card that is up to 128 GB, so that can compensate for the lack of storage in it. Giving how CHUWI Hi8 can run USB device, you can also use it with external drives as well.
CHUWI Hi8’s battery life is not that good, especially for a device people may buy for watching a lot of videos on, it can run for about 4 hours, that’s partly because of the full HD screen it has.
While the 32-bit version of Windows 10 can’t run 64-bit applications. It still can do a lot, and it is likely going to be supported for years to come, giving Microsoft’s record in that.
As for the Android side, so far, you are going to be stuck with Kitkat, while that version is not exactly bad, it is starting to get outdated, so if you always plan to run new Apps, you may find yourself in a situation where you can’t because of that.
For an afforable tablet, CHUWI Hi8 is good for all kinds of simple tasks, from reading books to browsing the web & watching videos. It can also do things like Skype chats & the like. From the Windows side, you will be able to run a full-fledged Microsoft Office and do some light work.
CHUWI Hi8 has no styles, but has one USB port (using the adapter that comes with it), so you can attach an external keyboard or a mouse to it. The main things to consider here, don’t expect to do some heavy work on this device.
When it comes to using CHUWI Hi8 for artwork creation, I expect it to run some of the main art programs, like Photoshop & Illustrator, where you could do some light stuff with it, like photo-editing the smaller images. Bear in mind that CHUWI Hi8 has 2 GB of ram, which is the minimum recommended for running Photoshop. Another thing you could consider in case you want to photo-edit is to use GIMP, which is a free alternative to Photoshop that uses less resources. In case you want to paint, using Paint Tool Sai is another thing you could check out, as it is lightweight and provides good capabilities. Since Adobe illustrator needs only 1GB of ram, there is a better chance of you using it here,
CHUWI Hi8 has dual Camera with it, one on the front with 0.3MP, and another one on the back with 2MP. The quality of the cameras is not great, but it is better than not having them.
As I mentioned before, CHUWI Hi8 comes with one USB port, which you could convert into a full USB port using the adapter that comes with it. This will allow you to run from all sorts of devices, as long as they support Windows 10.
CHUWI Hi8 is a good nice bargain for those looking for a simple tablet that allows them to do things on the go. Especially for a wide variety of simple tasks, like checking E-mail, reading PDF files, or having Skype chats. In case you want more than that, I suggest you find a more powerful tablet.
I hope you liked my CHUWI Hi8 review, and see you again in another review. ^^
